Howdy, South Gators! Well, a LOT has happened since our last newsletter! First, about 175 of you (wow!!!) attended the informational session before our vote about potential acquisition by Sarasota County, then 259 of you showed up and made your voices heard by voting! About 100 new members joined leading up to the vote, taking our total membership above 300. Thank you, South Gators, for becoming members and voting to keep our community OURS. The best is yet to come! :-) Another absolutely wonderful happening from this past month was the 4th of July party, held at The Oasis on Saturday the 3rd. About 100 attended, despite the deluge of rain early in the evening! There was a great mix of neighbors and many mini South Gators were in attendance - the kids especially enjoyed climbing the big tree in the rain, the hula hoop contest, and dunking President Dave repeatedly (and we mean repeatedly, what a good sport he was!!) in the dunk tank! We owe a special thank you to MANY people who contributed to the party, but here are a few we just can’t miss: event chairperson Andrea Needham, whose creativity and sparkle bring something special to every South Gate event, and her grillmaster husband, Ryan; Steve & Lisa Lewis, who sponsored the gorgeous fireworks display; Mike & Lynne Scarborough, for their financial support of the event; LeeAnn & Rudy Poe, who donated the fun gift basket we raffled; and our tireless volunteers who ran food, checked guests in, and did whatever else needed doing!
