South Gate Community Association, Inc. (“SGCA”) is a not-for-profit corporation formed to preserve and maintain a unique part of Sarasota, Florida. SGCA is not a homeowner’s association, but a private group of homeowners and businesses with common goals. This website is designed as an informational resource which contains useful information about our association.
WHAT ARE SGCA’s GOALS? Our membership works to protect the integrity of our community, safeguard our historical landmarks, and promote our quality of life. We preserve and maintain a historic mid-century building located on Phillippi Creek which overlooks approximately three acres of charming wooded grounds, which include a historic swimming pool.
SGCA HISTORY AND MEMBERSHIP. SGCA is named for the historical South Gate neighborhood which is a "deed-restricted community” founded in 1956. South Gate is bordered by Beneva Road, Tamiami Trail, Hyde Park, and Bee Ridge. Our association has existed for over 70 years and continues to work for the community. Our membership is diverse and welcoming!
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Get involved today! SGCA is solely funded by annual “voluntary memberships”, community center rentals and donations. Join today! We invite you to have fun, relax, meet people, visit the pool, and make new friends. Your financial support is appreciated.
BECOME A MEMBER! By paying an annual membership fee you will support:
* The Historic Victor Lundy South Gate Community Center and Swimming Pool.
* Membership Events. Membership includes free and/or discounted access to association events such as Food Truck Fridays, Easter Egg Hunt, Splash Pool Party, Fourth of July Festivities, Christmas/Holiday Party and more.
* Deed Restrictions. SGCA is the entity tasked with enforcing deed restrictions in the South Gate neighborhood.
2026 Annual membership fees: South Gate residents $200.00, non-residents $275.00 and business associate memberships $100.00. JOIN US TODAY!
The Association continues to support the on-going project to dredge Phillippi Creek and to remove the remnant dam structure. This issue is important to many of our members due to the 2024 flooding and the potential future flooding during our storm seasons. SGCA is committed to ensuring that these projects move forward and that we are included within the project scope.
Pool Parties!
Pool parties at South Gate require a reservation and a release. Please contract our office for details. Also, our pool has been our community’s go-to spot for 68 years, but has ongoing maintenance. We’re asking for your continuing help to raise funds for pool improvements. Every contribution counts!
