South Gate is a “deed-restricted community” founded in 1956. This website is designed as an informational resource which contains useful information about our association.

WHAT IS SGCA? South Gate Community Association, Inc. (“SGCA”) is a private group of homeowners and businesses sharing a common goal to protect the integrity of our community, safeguard our historical landmarks, and promote our quality of life. SGCA is named for the historical South Gate neighborhood bordered by Beneva Road, Tamiami Trail, Hyde Park, and Bee Ridge. SGCA’s office is located on Phillippi Creek, in a mid-century 50’s building which overlooks acres of charming wooded grounds and a historic swimming pool. Although we have a chartered obligation to protect the South Gate neighborhood’s interest, SGCA is not a homeowner’s association. SGCA is a not-for-profit corporation that has worked for over 50 years to preserve and maintain our unique part of Florida and the interest of South Gate. SGCA is funded by annual “voluntary memberships”, community center rentals and donations. Membership is diverse and welcoming!

BECOME A MEMBER! By paying an annual membership fee you will support:

* The Historic Victor Lundy South Gate Community Center and Swimming Pool.

* Membership Events. Membership includes free and/or discounted access to association events such as Food Truck Fridays, Easter Egg Hunt, Splash Pool Party, Fourth of July Festivities, Christmas/Holiday Party and more.

* Deed Restrictions. SGCA is the entity tasked with enforcing deed restrictions in the South Gate neighborhood.

EVENTS IN SOUTH gATE

The SGCA Civics Affairs Committee has engaged with Sarasota County Commissioners and staff on the removal of the remnant dam structure and dredging Phillippi Creek throughout South Gate. This issue is important to many residents of South Gate due to the recent flooding during the 2024 storm season. The SGCA is committed to ensuring that these projects move forward and that South Gate is included within the project scope.
