How to Volunteer

South Gate Community Association, Inc. (“SGCA”) runs on volunteers! If you’d like to help out there are a number of ways you can depending on your areas of interest and expertise. Our current committees consist of:

Membership and Civic

The membership committee always needs help reaching out to new homeowners and residents, coordinating membership drives, and attending SGCA social events to help verify or sign up new members. They also keep us informed of local occurrences that directly affect South Gate.

Social/Events

The SGCA Social committee is in charge of social events held for the membership and fund raisers. They plan and coordinate our events from start to finish. Volunteers are always needed for each and every event.

Building & Grounds and Pool

Volunteers are always welcome to join the B&G Committee. Your ideas and donations of plants, hard work and similar acts are welcome. Please keep an eye on the community calendar for dates and times for scheduled work days at the South Gate Community Center.

Deed Restrictions

The deed restriction committee needs help with neighborhood patrols, verifying reported violations, and educating residents about deed restriction adherence. We need members with legal experience to join us!

The “Gator” Newsletter

The “Gator” has been a South Gate tradition for decades. We’re always looking for volunteers to write articles, etc.

Why join SGCA?

The South Gate Community Association (SGCA) was founded and incorporated as a not-for-profit voluntary association in 1956. The association owns the historic Victor Lundy South Gate Center, which is a Sarasota area historically designated building. Our swimming pool is vintage and is the oldest continuously operated swimming pool in the Sarasota area. Our goal is to maintain and preserve these unique amenities for future generations. Help us!

Although we rent the Center for events, including weddings, parties, celebrations of life, and similar activities, these rentals only cover a portion of our costs. Your membership and ideas are needed. Please Get Involved!

We exist "for the purpose of promoting social and recreational gatherings for its members, their families and friends, and toward the end of cementing a good fellowship and a social cooperative spirit in this community." A quote from our historical documents.

The funds raised through the voluntary memberships and event rentals go to support the (i) on-going preservation of our historic center, including the grounds and pool areas, (ii) deed restriction enforcement, and (iii) civic and social activities.
